Many people do not think about the possibility of cancer. After all, you don’t want to live your life wondering about negative “what ifs”. But at the same time, it is important to recognize the wisdom of skin cancer screenings, particularly if you are at risk or notice symptoms.
Skin cancer is much more common than you might think. It is the most common type of cancer in the United States. About three million Americans every year are diagnosed with some type of skin cancer. Most types of skin cancer are not fatal, but they are easier to treat when diagnosed and treated early. Melanoma, the most dangerous type of skin cancer, needs to be detected and treated early to prevent it from traveling to other parts of the body.
Skin Cancer Symptoms
Most skin cancer symptoms are visual. You should always be mindful of moles, birthmarks, and other blemishes that you have on your body. Periodically, you should examine them to make sure that they are not changing or becoming irregular. You should also take note when you get a new mole or skin discoloration, particularly if it does not look normal. Moles that change size, shape, color, and/or bleed can also be symptoms of skin cancer.
Having a skin cancer screening is a good idea if you spend a lot of time outdoors, especially if you only use sunblock when going to the park or the beach. If you have never had a skin cancer screening, contact us today for an appointment. Or if you have had a screening but you believe you have some symptoms of skin cancer, contact us immediately for another screening.
